The Gospel: God's Plan For Me

The word "gospel" means "good news." It is the message about Christ, the kingdom of God and salvation. Use the following guide to share the good news with someone.

1. God rules. The Bible tells us God created everything, including you and me, and He is in charge of everything. (Genesis 1:1, Revelation 4:11, Colossians 1:16-17)

2. We sinned. Since the time of Adam and Eve, everyone has chosen to disobey God. (Romans 3:23) The Bible calls this sin. Because God is holy, God cannot be around sin. Sin separates us from God and deserves God’s punishment of death. (Romans 6:23)

3. God provided. God sent His Son Jesus, the perfect solution to our sin problem, to rescue us from the punishment we deserve, it’s something we, as sinners, could never earn on our own. Jesus alone saves us. (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9)

4. Jesus gives. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again. Because Jesus gave up His life for us, we can be welcomed into God’s family for eternity. This is the best gift ever! (Romans 5:8, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 3:18)

5. We respond. We can respond to Jesus. The ABCs of Becoming a Christian is a simple tool that helps us remember how to respond when prompted by the Holy Spirit to receive the gift Jesus offers.

ABCs of Salvation

A-Admit to God that you are a sinner. Repent, turning away from your sin. (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
B-Believe that Jesus is God's Son and accept God's gift of forgiveness from sin. (John 3:16, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:11-13)

C-Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Romans 10:9-10, 13)

FAITH Gospel Presentation

In your personal opinion, what do you understand that it takes for a person to get to heaven and have eternal life?

People answer this question in a variety of ways. However, only one thing matters. What does the Bible say? I would like to share with you how the Bible answers that question. The Bible answers that question with one word: FAITH. Each letter in the word FAITH means something important.

We cannot have eternal life and heaven unless we experience God’s forgiveness. Why?

  • Everyone has sinned and needs God’s forgiveness “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23, HCSB).” This means me….this means you…this means everyone!
  • God’s forgiveness is in Jesus only “In Him (meaning Jesus) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses (sin)…(Ephesians 1:7, HCSB).”

What is available? Forgiveness is available!

  • God’s forgiveness is available for all of us. Jesus said, “God so loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believers in Him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16, HCSB).”
  • God’s forgiveness is available for all of us, but it is not automatic. Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, `Lord, Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 7:21, HCSB).”

According to the Bible, it is impossible for us to get into Heaven on our own, by our good deeds, or even by living a good life.  “For by grace you are saved through FAITH, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift- not from works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9, HCSB).”

If we cannot get to heaven on our own, by our good deeds, or by living a good life, then how can a sinful person like you or me have eternal life and enter heaven?

T is for TURN

QUESTION: Suppose you are going down a road and someone says to you, “Stop! Turn!”, what would that person be asking you to do? (Change direction / Go a new road)

In the Bible the word, “turn” is the word “Repent.” Repent means to change direction or to go a new way. We must make a turn in our lives.

  • We must turn away from our sin and self Jesus said, “Unless you repent (turn from your sin and self), you will all likewise perish (Luke 13:3, HCSB).”
  • We must turn to the Savior- Trust Jesus only as your Savior and Lord The Bible makes it very clear that there are not many ways to heaven, but only one way to heaven. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6, HCSB).”

Here is the greatest news of all for our lives

“If you confess with your mouth, `Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved…with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation (Romans 10:9-10, HCSB).”

What happens if a person is willing to repent of their sins and confess “Jesus is Lord?”

H is for HEAVEN

Heaven is a place where we will live with God forever in the HEREAFTER. Listen to Jesus’ promise to you: Jesus said, “If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also (John 14:3, HCSB).”

You can have heaven beginning HERE. Eternal life begins now with Jesus. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and have it in abundance (John 10:10, HCSB).”

The letter H also stands for HOW. The question is this: How can a person have God’s forgiveness, eternal life, and heaven? The answer is simple…If you will turn away from you sin and self and trust Jesus to forgive your sins, you can have the assurance of heaven.

Understanding what I have shared with you, would you like to receive this forgiveness and assurance of heaven by trusting in Christ as your personal Savior and Lord?

Right now you can have the assurance of heaven. You can choose to pray right now and ask Jesus to forgive your sin and take control of your life. Pray this prayer by faith.
