The Journey to Joy

Joyful Obedience

Philippians 2:12-16

1.    Work out your salvation (vs. 12-13)

  • The Three Tenses of salvation:

a)    Past tense: the believer has been saved from the penalty of sin. (Ephesians 2:8, 2 Timothy 1:9, Romans 5:1)

b)    Present tense: the believer is being saved from the power of sin. (2 Thessalonians 2:13, Romans 8:2, 1 Peter 1:14-16)

c)    Future tense: the believer will be saved from the presence of sin. (1 Peter 1:5, Romans 13:11, Colossians 3:4)

  • We can only live the Christian life successfully as we, with all our effort, depend on all His energy. (Colossians 1:29, 2 Corinthians 3:5)
  • We do this by surrendering to God’s Spirit. (Zechariah 4:6, 1 Corinthians 2:4, Ephesians 5:18, Galatians 2:20)

2.    Do all things without grumbling or disputing (2:14-16)

  • As we live our lives each day, we need to decide either to be grumblers or gospel proclaimers – complainers or communicators of the word of life.
