Joy in Prison

Philippians 1:1-11

 

 

  • What gave Paul Joy in Prison?

 

  1. His Position in Christ (vs. 1-2)

 

  • Lesson: Serving God will always bring joy to your hearts no matter the circumstances. (John 15:11, Acts 20:35)

 

  • How do you get started serving Christ?
  1. a) What’s your passion?
  2. b) What needs do you see?
  3. c) What step do you need to take?
  4. d) What needs to change in your use of time?
  5. e) What monetary investment do you need to make?

 

 

  1. The People of Christ (vs. 3-8)

 

  • Lesson: If you want joy in every situation and circumstance of life, you can find it in the fellowship of believers. (1 John 1:3–4)

 

  • The benefits of fellowship:
  1. Edification (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
  2. Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
  3. Sharing (Acts 4:34–35)
  4. Service opportunities (1 Peter 4:10)

 

  1. Praying for All Believers (vs. 9-11)

 

  • Lesson: If you want to guarantee yourself a life of joy, even in the worst of circumstances, then pray – especially for your fellow Christians. God works in the world through prayer. (John 14:12-14, John 15:16)
